What is the best way to clean a Gold Engagement Ring white at home?
Im looking to clean my engagement ring … There is some dirt trapped under the rock and I'm wondering if there are any safe, household products that could steep to bring it back to its original luster and remove dirt. Thanks for the suggestions!
A simple solution that can be used at home (and we recommend in our jewelry store) is a solution of 1 part sudzy ammonia, some simple green and 1 part hot water. Let the ring soak for several minutes (longer for stubborn dirt) to loosen dirt / grease / Oil then scrub with a toothbrush (do not use toothpaste) Rinse with warm water and dry with soft paper towel. You can also use a red cloth from time to when (after the ring is dry) for the same value to give a veneer of light. By the way, white gold does not tarnish. However, rhodium is often plated to do is more white (not that yellow gold is below!) Nickel (alloy that is added to create white gold) is not as white as rhodium metal. However, there are manufacturers who are now marketing a white gold that does not require rhodium plating.
